Clara G. Duecker, 86, of Lisbon and formerly of Frederika, died Thursday, July 25, 2013, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids.
Funeral Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 29, 2013, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Frederika with Rev. Dale Halverson officiating. Interment will follow at Alcock Cemetery, rural Tripoli. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, July 28, 2013, at Rettig Funeral Home in Tripoli and for one hour preceding services at the church on Monday. Memorials may be made in her name to the Alcock Cemetery Association.
Clara Grace, daughter of Ernest Alonzo and Evelyn Marie Jepperson Luck, was born June 30, 1927, at New Hartford, Iowa. She was baptized into the Baptist faith in the river at New Hartford at the age of thirteen. She graduated from New Hartford High School in 1944, and studied pre-med at Iowa State Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls for one year prior to receiving U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps training in 1945 and 1946. In July of 1946, she was united in marriage with Orville Duecker at Hiawatha, Kansas. Clara worked at the University of Iowa Hospitals on the neurology floor while Orville attended the College of Pharmacy at the university. The couple owned and operated a pharmacy in Anthon, Iowa for many years and Clara worked with her husband. In the mid 1970’s, they returned to northeast Iowa where they made their home in Waterloo prior to moving to Frederika. They moved to Lisbon a short time ago to be near their son. Clara was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Frederika and enjoyed collecting rocks and making jewelry out of her finds.
In addition to her husband, Orville of Lisbon, she is survived by two sons, Steve (Darlis) Duecker of Waverly, Nebraska and Scott (Dawn) Duecker of Lisbon; three grandchildren, Derek Duecker, Shanelle Duecker, and Scott (Sherri) Krause; one great granddaughter, Olivia Krause; and three sisters, her twin sister, Emma (Ray) DeVries of Greene, Barbara Gott of Hemet, California, and Laura Jean Catherwood of Waterloo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, William, Harry, and Raymond Luck; and one sister, Nina Carlin.
